Yoga Journal Work Exchange Program: 2014 San Francisco Conference, January 16 - 20 in San Francisco, California

Dear Friend,

Thank you for inquiring about a Work Exchange position at the 2014 Yoga Journal San Francisco Conference.

The Work Exchange Volunteer Program is available for qualified participants who are interested in assisting the conference managers in the production of the conference. The program is an excellent way to become involved behind-the-scenes, while participating in a world-class yoga gathering. There is a nominal fee and a partial rebate is given to those who satisfactorily perform their duties. This program is not for those who are seeking a full schedule of yoga. We are seeking people who wish to be vital members of the conference management team, while being able to participate in a limited number of classes.

Interest in this program is always. If you would like to apply please send us:

1) a resume or work history

2) a statement telling us why you are interested in this program. We would like to know your educational and employment background and not necessarily your experience with yoga (hint… we know you do yoga, tell us what makes you a great volunteer).

You can apply via email to yoga@horizonconferences.com or via fax to 303-447-3946, Attn: Heather.

Below is a complete description of the program.

  • Work Exchange Volunteers must be available from 11:00 AM Thursday, January 16 through 5:00 PM Monday, January 20, 2014, including evenings.
  • Work Exchange Volunteers will be required to work up to sixteen hours. This includes helping at the Registration Desk, assembling goody bags, assisting with audiovisual, working at special events and other management tasks. Some moderate lifting is involved.
  • There will be a mandatory orientation meeting for volunteers at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 16. At that time work-schedules will be distributed. The remainder of that day and evening we’ll be involved in organizing for the arrival of conference participants.
  • Work Exchange Volunteers will be required to be a door monitor for up to six classes. You will be able to participate in these classes fifteen minutes after the class begins.

NOTE: Fulfilling door monitoring and mat placement duties can be demanding and requires that you be firm and diplomatic. Class sizes are controlled by allowing only registered participants to enter and participants are required to place their mats according to our configurations. If you become a Work Exchange Volunteer it is imperative that you are comfortable enforcing these regulations.

  • Work Exchange Volunteers can participate in classes when not working. These classes are taken on a space available basis and volunteers are not eligible to register for classes.
  • Work Exchange Volunteers are charged a $200 fee. Each volunteer’s performance is rated and within four weeks of the end of the conference, those with a satisfactory rating are issued a $100 rebate. (Note: the $200 fee is considered as a commitment on your part and will not be refunded should you cancel.)
  • Yoga Journal has a block of discounted rooms reserved for our group at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco. We encourage you to make your reservations early and mention Yoga Journal to receive the special group rate of $199 (single or double) plus tax; Guest rooms are limited. This discounted room rate will be offered a space-available basis until Monday, December 24, 2013. All lodging must be booked directly with the hotel. To book a room online click here or call 1-415-788-1234.

For purposes of communication prior to the conference, we require that each volunteer have an email address. The Work Exchange Program is a great opportunity to network and make friends with other volunteers while sharing a common goal of providing service to the yoga community. And, of course, you’ll study with some great teachers.

Selections for the Work Exchange Program will be made in the near future. We look forward to receiving your application.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Luftig
